The Textile Technology branch was started in 1958. The
branch occupies a separate machinery lab constituting an area of
13000 square feet. The
lab is divided into five
sections, viz. Yarn Manufacture lab,
Fabric Manufacture lab, Wet Processing Lab, Knitting and
Garment lab and Testing lab.
Yarn Manufacture lab: Machines
installed in this lab are Carding engine, Fly frame and Ring frame
Fabric Manufacture lab: Lab
Comprises Cone winding
machine, Pirn winding machine, Mill warping machine, Hand looms,
Jacquard Hand looms, Power looms with over picking, under picking,
tappet shedding, dobby shedding, automatic pirn changing loom, Drop
Box loom, Jacquard card cutting machine
etc.
Wet Processing Lab: - Lab is equipped with oven, gas heating system, electric
heating system, liquid heating system, dying pots, open kier, small
winch dying machine, block printing equipments, screen printing
equipments, screen developing system
etc
Knitting and Garment lab: - It Comprises Circular knitting machine, Flat
knitting machine, Sewing machines, over lock machine, fashion maker,
cutting table, cutting tool etc..
Textile Testing lab:- This lab is
equipped with various testing instruments such as Sling Hygrometer,
Electronic moisture Regain Tester, Baer sorter,
Stelometer, Fiber Fineness Tester, Projection Microscope,
Knowles balance, Beesley’s balance, Lea Strength Tester, Single
yarn Twist Tester, Take-up Twist Testers, ASTM boards with
comparison arrangement, Black board wrapping machine, Fabric
stiffness tester, Threads density tester, Wrap reel,
Wrap block etc.
Computer is also provided in the Textile lab
For extra practical sessions to the students, Textile mill
visits are conducted under the Industry-Institute interaction
program. Present
Diploma curriculum consists of one month Industrial Training.
Training seminar has to be conducted
by each student with a detailed report.
Project work is compulsory to full fill the Diploma course.
From the academic year 2006-07 onwards Year wise Diploma
course curriculum is converted to semester system consisting of
six semesters. After
the completion of course most of the students get employment at
various Textile organizations.
Campus interviews are conducted by various firms like Garden
Mills, Ambika Cottons, Precot Meridian, WFB Baird Ltd, etc..
Apart from the Three
year Diploma course, a two year Textile Certificate course is also
conducted under this branch.
A short term Textile dying and printing course is conducted
for the benefits of the public under Community Polytechnic
scheme.
